kfxI believe crowdsupply units come with the i.mx8mplus compute module.  I base this on the knowledge that crowdsupply is affiliated with mouser and that's what mouser reports having in stock.00:02

joschminute: sorry XD rk3588 pocket reform had the following: both keyboard and trackball disappeared on usb (the mouse cursor was gone from the display) but the keyboard was still lit up. Nothing happens when pressing any key. Resetting the keyboard via the oled made the cursor re-appear and both keyboard and trackball worked again.06:34

joschas pointed out yesterday, with screen, ssd, keyboard, trackball removed, rk3588 lasts 11.9475 when idle15:28
joschon the same setup, but with stress -c 8, that setup lasts 5.416 hours15:28
joschthis means that several hours of battery life are not eaten by the processor (it could do nearly 12 hours) but by screen, keyboard, trackball, ssd, wifi15:29

joschah now i remember why i didn't package it for debian: tree-sitter-lua is a very complex crate...16:20
aeliusNew here. I'm kindof casually interested in getting one of the reform devices. I'm not super interested in tinkering, it's more that I just want a laptop with physical buttons for the touchpad, and hey neat this one is opensource. I'm super interested in the trackball, actually, but the newer device seems to not have that? How hard would it be to fit that to the new one?16:50
aeliusGenerally interested to hear about how this might perform for me as basically being an end user. No intense job/gaming/other requirements, not super keen on troubleshooting say, the keyboard firmware16:52
aeliusThe only thing holding me back from just ordering and trying it out is a) price on top of tariff wildcard :( and b) I would really like a nicer screen. A 1080p120Hz oled would be ideal, I think. Anyone mod one of those in yet?16:54
aeliusI say I'm not interested in tinkering and yet posit that I want <things requiring tinkering>. I am my own worst enemy in this way.16:55
minuteaelius: the trackball doesn't physically fit in the reform next.16:58
aeliusdarn. Why did it get left out? Wasn't that great?16:58
minuteaelius: and ordering from crowd supply, there are no tariffs because the wares are already in the US then.16:58
aeliusAh, good to know16:58
minuteaelius: the class reform has the trackball and has similar HW specs16:59
minuteclassic reform16:59
minutethe rk3588 version is not yet on CS though16:59
minuteaelius: i also want 120hz, but didn't find a panel yet, and OLED, a whole other story. would be nice though, for sure.17:00
aeliusYeah, I wasn't super clear on the differences between the new one and the classic one. I see that the new one is redesigned to be a bit more modular. But I have zero context for these cpus other than understanding they are ARM based.17:00
minuteaelius: the next is thinner and has a more flush body and no acrylic bottom plate17:09
minuteaelius: as a casual user you def. want the rk3588 processor17:09
minuteaelius: if you want to do modern web browsing without waiting for page loads17:10

aeliusI was curious about it, but I'm a left-hand amputee and That complicates how I'm able to hold a device. A traditional laptop is pretty self-balancing.17:24
aeliusGood to know about the processor. I definitely try to minimize the amount I engage with the bloated web these days, but I would also be annoyed if it were slow when I needed to use it.17:26

aelius–Actually, I use my laptop to remote into my desktop a lot and that brings up a question. Does this CPU support low latency H.265 decode? like 5 ms or less.17:32

minuteaelius: i think that doesn't fullfil your "no tinkering" requirement at the moment, sorry. but perhaps at a later time.18:21
