grimmwareThe pocketchip made my thumbs so sad.10:21
cararemixedMy picocalc loves dropping key presses. The dome switches seem a bit hit or miss. Very slow to type but still very fun to hack on.10:22
cararemixedMy alt ultra portable has been a legion go with the controllers taken off and the os swapped, 50% mechanical keyboard with custom firmware.10:24
cararemixedVery performant but no hinge to support it makes it hard to use without a stable table. So I can’t just use it on a bus or whatever.10:24
cararemixedhttps://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/Vz6rLodl/IMG_6691.JPG10:27
cararemixedStill prefer the pocket for compactness as well as openness and repairability. The performance and battery issues are something I can work with.10:29
cararemixedI’ve also managed to crack the screen protector on this twice. Clamshells are just better.10:31
cararemixedLooking forward to repairing the pocket charging board so it can come with me more often. It gets the most questions by far around town as well.10:33

kxtellsHi HI! I am looking here for more "inspiration" on what to look at since I am at a loss. I have a MNT Pocket that too often loses the connection to Keyboard. Keyboard is alive (can use it to drive the OLED menu), but Linux does not seem to see it anymore. I updated to latest firmware and double checked the wired connection (just in case)13:21
kxtellsdmesg is full of "reset full-speed USB device number"... and after a while, it disconnects and reconnects with a new number. Until it just says "can't add hid device -32"13:22
kxtellsjust for reference: https://gist.github.com/kxtells/8fcaacd5b2a7213b0f5e9ef12e95aa1413:22
kxtellsany ideas on what to check/test are more than welcome :-D13:22
minutekxtells: i've seen this for some people but haven't a 100% sure idea of what the root cause is for this. some things that could be:13:39
minutekxtells: 1. is your uboot recent enough to have usb hub reset? is it imx8mplus or rk3588?13:40
minutekxtells: if you haven't done so recently: sudo apt update; sudo apt install reform-tools; sudo reform-flash-uboot emmc13:41
minutekxtells: 2. it could be a bad cable (intermittent connection). i've seen a few (quite rare though). tried reseating the keyboard cables on both ends?13:42
minutekxtells: 3. it could be a damaged rp2040. in that case, we'd need to replace the keyboard (we can refurb the old one)13:43
chintel wifi seems to be a lot better13:43
kxtellsyes, i reseated the keyboard cables just in case today, and after that I could still see the intermitent errors13:43
kxtellsthis is rk3588, I will perform the reform-flash-uboot emmc and see if there is any improvement. thanks minute13:44
minutech: nice! sounds like you got a package13:45
chyes!13:45
chi'm not sure how to bend all the flex cables into place though, its a bit messy. maybe i'll let a professional have a look after christmas (:13:46
minutech: hehe yeah there will be some professionals available13:56
chnice14:00
kxtellsOk, reflashed and it restarted. I will leave it with a `dmesg -w` see if I see more of the "reset full-speed yadda yadda"14:01
minutekxtells: alright!14:16

joschch: you coming to 39c3 i hear? :)14:46
chyes14:47
joschch: the solution for the flex cables it to install it into classic reform and not into the pocket :D14:47
joschch: nice! :)14:47
chhaha14:47
joschmy package was attempted to be delivered today14:47
joschbut of course it's ups so it didn't happen :)14:48
joschat least they will not attempt again tomorrow but instead i can just pick it up14:48
joschi'm very hyped since i learned that of course you can put it into the classic too :D14:48
joschminute: is there a way to power motherboard 3.0 without batteries while at the same time having usb-c connected for serial output? Would i have to use the DC-input pins on the motherboard or is there a way to supply power via usb-c and at the same time read out the serial?14:49

+ paperManu (~paperManu@modemcable141.205-200-24.mc.videotron.ca)15:01
minutejosch: you can use the dc in pins, or you have to splice in more than the usual 5v over the usb-c 15:14

minutejosch: i.e. while cutting that power line to the host15:14
joschminute: "splice in" -- are there existing devices that do that and if yes, do you know how they are named?15:15
minutethere are commercial adapters for this but they don't work somehow15:15
joschah :)15:15
joschdc pins it is :)15:15
minutejosch: easiest way yes :315:15
joschi like dc -- at least i understand that. With usb-c pd i'm lost :D15:16

kxtellsUpdate! Pocket just disconnected the keyboard. Same situation, many `reset full speed usb....`, `New usb found... MNT input` more `reset full speed...` until it gets to the situation `can't add hid device: -32` `probe with usbhid failed with.. -32`. I will try to crimp a new cable, see if it improves the connection. It is the one on the right hinge15:36
kxtellsright?15:36
chjosch: i take it you'll come too?16:04
