joschdigitalrane: the u-boot "forks" are just a bunch of git repos which clone u-boot and apply some patches. There exist one repo per SoM. As for Linux I'm not aware that somebody has made a list of which things work for each some without the patches, i.e. just with mainline. On the other hand, the answer would be easy for many SoMs if you also want the dtb in mainline: nothing. :)01:27

digitalranethanks, that's helpful - but what I mean is - for example, we don't use mainline uboot for everything right? I thought for at least pocket we used the boundary fork02:43
joschdigitalrane: depends. Pocket with RK3588 uses mainline u-boot with a few patches: https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-rk3588-uboot/https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-rk3588-uboot/02:47

joschch: moin! _o/10:18
joschch: i see you had too many asiarf cards? :D10:18
chi did10:19
chthought you might like one too10:19
joschbut i already had "too many asiarf cards" myself XD10:19
joschin other words: if anybody here needs some asiarf wifi cards... :)10:19
joschch: do i see you for the mnt community dinner in hamburg?10:20
chyes10:21
joschnice! i added you to my list :)10:21
joschwe can trade asiarf cards then :)10:21
chmight bring +1, will let you know if that happens10:22
joschperfect10:22
chthanks for organizing10:22
josch:)10:22
joschminute: i just saw that the classic reform with rk3588 is also affected by the "only one orientation gives usb 3 superspeed/5000MBit/s" problem. Does this mean that there is a bug on the SoM?10:31
chjosch: will indeed bring +110:40
chminute: please go to https://source.mnt.re/pocket/pocket-reform/-/settings/repository#js-protected-tags-settings and set it up so that the "20*" tags are protected. example screenshot: https://tmp.deduktiva.com/p/Screenshot%202025-11-20%20at%2010.39.26.png and https://tmp.deduktiva.com/p/Screenshot%202025-11-20%20at%2010.39.37.png10:45
chminute: i think this will fix the lvfs-upload job not running for these tags10:45
chminute: explainer: the LVFS_UPLOAD_NETRC variable should have the flag "Protect variable" set, hiding it from CI runs for unprotected branches and tags(!)10:46
chminute: in my ci/lint simulations that seems to fix it10:46
minutejosch: classic reform doesn't have usb-c for data10:57
minutejosch: so there is no way to have an orientation issue on classic reform. what exactly is your (cable) setup?10:59
joschminute: i have a Logitech StreamCam which has a usb-c cable attached to it. I attach it to the classic with a usb-A to usb-C adapter.11:02
joschi check whether it's 480 or 5000 speed using "lsusb -t"11:03
minutejosch: and where are you changing the orientation?11:03
joschthe only place where it's possible: at the adapter plugged into the reform11:04
joschthe usb-c cable of the camera is not detachable11:04
minutejosch: aha11:04
minutejosch: both orientations will make a connection to the same set of pins on reform11:05
joschfunky11:05
joschusb-c/usb-a adapter broken then11:05
minutejosch: how do you prove that?11:06
joschif you say that it's not the reform, then my guess is that it has to be the adapter11:06
joschbecause it's the only other thing between reform and camera11:06
minutejosch: why can't it be the camera?11:07
joschi do not understand usb-c enough to conclude either way11:07
joschi thought that if it does 5000 one way then why would it be the camera if it cannot do it the other way round11:07
minutejosch: because the camera has only one set of superspeed pins too11:08
joschhm...11:08
minutejosch: and a mux (switch) that switches those pins to the other side of the cable11:08
minutejosch: depending on the orientation of the cable11:09
joschokay11:09
joschi unfortunately cannot test much more because i do not have more usb-c devices here :D11:09
minutejosch: yeah, that's the problem11:09
minuteyou would need more hosts and devices11:09
joschthank you for your feedback <311:10
joschin practice i now know to be careful with this device11:10
josch(and maybe add some markings to the usb-c connector with an edding...)11:10
joschch: cool, you are both on my list now11:11
chta11:16
Zabajosch: is it a usb-a plug to usb-c receptacle adapter?11:30
joschZaba: just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, the adapter looks like this one: https://www.reichelt.de/de/de/shop/produkt/adapter_usb-a_stecker_usb-c_buchse_schwarz-22425411:34
Zabayeah, those are explicitly prohibited by the spec (primarily because they made it too easy to connect two usb-a hosts together, shorting their power supplies and thereby causing mischief), which means there’s no standard way to construct them, and I do believe they may have issues with usb3 signals orientation11:36
joschwhat is the "right" way to connect a camera with a usb-c cable to a device like the classic reform then?11:41
minutejosch: probably a hub that has usb-c sockets11:44
joschi guess there will be some point in the future where my household has no devices with USB-A anymore... some time...11:51
chthat will take a lot of time11:51
joschyup11:52
Zabayeah devices with captive usb-c cables are a bit unfortunate in this regard 11:52
Zabawhich is why it wasn’t really a common design for a while I think 11:52
joschright, lesson learned i guess. I'll have to remember avoiding devices with a non-removable usb-c cable *unless* they are usb-hubs.11:54
joschin completely unrelated news, i just got a bunch of 10-pin, 20-pin and 33-pin fpc cables in different lengths. I'll bring them to hamburg in case somebody wants to stock up on replacements.12:08
joschand in more unrelated news i just replaced the screws of the classic reform and pocket reform covers with M2 screws with a TX (torx) head. I'm *very* please with how much nice it is now to open and close classic and pocket. The only downside is that I now need to carry two screwdrivers around with me12:12
gordon1welcome to the club12:15
gordon1the only issue i'm having with it is that my cheap blackened screws wear the coating to quickly, so keyboard bottom corner screws are completely worn off already12:17
gordon1probably should have bought nicer screws12:17
gordon1josch: did you replace the hinge screws as well?12:18
joschgordon1: not yet! both hinges are still running on being connected by two M2 screws each. Neither broke (yet).12:18
gordon1oh no i meant the big ones, was it M4x5 or something? 12:19
gordon1i have trox replacement but too lazy to strip everything down to replace it tho12:19
gordon1one day..12:19
+ paperManu (~paperManu@107.159.15.124)12:25
minutejosch: is the reform ccc meeting already fixed on the 12-29, or could it be on the 12-28? the 12-29 is the last night of congress and we'd usually prefer to be there (at the congress) instead of somewhere else12:32
minutejosch: sorry i didn't interact with this earlier, too much on my plate as always :D12:33
+ gustav25 (~gustav@c-78-82-54-254.bbcust.telenor.se)13:02
joschminute: no, it could also be on the 28th13:31
joschgordon1: my goal is not to replace all the screws but just those that i find myself constantly removing and putting back as i open and close these things13:32
joschIf I never touch a screw (like for the hinges) then there is little motivation to swap the head out for torx.13:32
