minutestephano: awesome, thanks for your work!01:30
minutestephano: i've also seen you found some bugs in mnt-sc, will review tomorrow @ work01:31
joschminute: if you have time, it would also be nice if you give https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/195 a review01:40
stephanominute: sounds good, no rush. 01:40
joschotherwise, every time a new MR like the one of stephano gets merged, I have to rewrite history of the git behind it01:40
stephanominute: I agree with josch :)01:43
minutejosch: this looks very good, are you going to store the text from the MR in a .md file in the repo too? it looks like an extremely useful reference01:44

joschminute: as you know, i have the larger battery cells in my pocket reform and i have the weird behaviour that according to the oled and according to the value reported by reform2_lpc/mnt-sc, my battery percentage is stuck at 100% or 92% or when i'm unlucky at 6% or less (and then gnome will shut down the device). Furthermore, i have repeated charging/uncharging events every couple of minutes even though 12:53
joschthe unit is stationary and connected to an AC adapter.12:53
joschA while ago you told me that maybe the battery board is somehow stuck and that i should unplug the batteries and all other power to do a complete reset. I just did that and had a weird experience i haven't read about so far.12:54
joschI reconnected the batteries, closed the bottom unit, then connected power, flipped the standby switch and powered the pocket on.12:54
joschAccording to the oled, the battery percentage started off at 100% and then slowly over the course of maybe half a minute counted down to 0%. This was a problem because when gnome saw that low percentage, it shut down the unit.12:55
joschWhen the unit was off and charging, the reverse happened and within a few seconds, the battery percentage counted up to 100%.12:55
joschaccording to the oled, cell voltage is at 3.2 and 3.4 V12:57

minutejosch: about the batteries, sorry, hard to reproduce right now without having such batteries installed. in general the setup isn't correct right now, as nobody is telling the charge controller/monitor about the correct size of the batteries. that needs to be fixed for your case.21:01
minutejosch: also, to debug any kind of weird charging behavior i need some logs from the system controller during that period.21:01
minutejosch: you can monitor the PD output with tio /dev/ttyACM021:02
joschah indeed i used to know that, thank you21:02
minutecurrently working on this, worked well locally with patched 7.1.8 adhoc loaded drivers, lets see if it still works the proper way with 7.1.9 https://source.mnt.re/reform/reform-debian-packages/-/merge_requests/199/diffs21:06
minutei'm trying to bring back the promised usb-c alt mode for pocket mb2.021:06
minutedisplayport alt-mode, that is... fixed the hotplugging stuff today21:06
minutejosch: the thing with unplugging the batteries is only necessary if the _system controller_ is totally stuck, in that case you can't even turn on the pocket or get any status reading21:08
+ Guest91 (~Guest91@2800:300:6392:a320:21ab:4a02:5f0f:9192)21:08
minutejosch: this happens only when flashing the system controller at an unlucky time and the charger chip gets unhappy and blocks the i2c bus forever21:09
joschminute: hm okay -- if this is a hard problem, please don't spend your time on it. This is my own hack and i get to keep the pieces.21:09
minutejosch: ok. i've some plans to make the battery capacity configurable, but this will come only after the infrastructure for such settings is complete21:10
joschthank you! no rush :)21:10
minutejosch: wonky charging is interesting to me though, as it could be firmware bug. so whenever you see that again, please make some SC logs :321:11
joschhaha i guess i want to put the old cells in again to make my readings more useful -- unfortunately we are traveling to portugal soon and then i need the larger capacity for the train ride :D21:12
